48 Hour Mural Project

Murals, Makers & Momentum: PHXJAX Ignites Creative Energy in Jacksonville’s Arts & Innovation District

The Phoenix Arts & Innovation District (PHXJAX) in North Springfield is quickly becoming Jacksonville’s most dynamic destination for public art, community events, and creative workspace leasing. Most recently, the 48-Hour Mural Project transformed the corridor of 14th Street between Market and Hubbard into an open-air gallery, drawing artists, visitors, and neighbors together to celebrate the power of public art and placemaking.

“As an artist, I’m always looking for ways to create opportunities that include other artists or allow for collaborations... I realized PHXJAX had the perfect space for a project like this.” — Jason Tetlak, Jacksonville-based artist

PHXJAX: Where Art Meets Regenerative Placemaking

More than just a mural event, the 48-Hour Mural Project exemplified regenerative placemaking—our philosophy of designing spaces that promote culture, creativity, wellness, and economic opportunity for all. At PHXJAX, we’re reimagining how neighborhoods grow—inviting artists, entrepreneurs, and community members to activate underutilized spaces through collaboration and expression.

Jacksonville Artists Bring the Walls to Life

Over the course of one weekend, artist teams—Grace Bio, Shea Slemmer & Jimmy Butcher, Jacksonville Arts & Music School (JAMS), Toneism, Zulu Painter, Toi Drayton, Barbara Hionides, Heart, Dosar, and RawSol—created a vibrant new mural gallery that reflects Jacksonville’s diversity and spirit. The result is a dynamic, walkable streetscape filled with biophilic design, storytelling, and historical nods that deepen local identity.

“It’s powerful and inspiring to not only witness muralists in action but also share conversations with them and hear the story behind their work.” — Emily Moody, Director of Community Engagement, PHXJAX

Events at PHXJAX Spark Community Connection

PHXJAX is not just a place for art—it’s a platform for cultural events, creative entrepreneurship, and inclusive development. The energy of the 48-Hour Mural Project is just one example of how we’re activating the district year-round with events that draw thousands and generate meaningful impact.
