THE ART PARK

(2401 Hubbard St. Jacksonville, FL. 32206)

Street art has deep roots in urban culture, evolving from the rebellious expressions of taggers in the 1970s to a global movement that blends creativity and social commentary. What began as a way for marginalized voices to claim public spaces with quick, often anonymous, signatures (or "tags") has grown into a respected form of art. Taggers, who mastered the art of rapid, stylized lettering, laid the foundation for much of today’s street art, including the art you see on our walls.

At the Phoenix Arts & Innovation District, we recognize and respect the origins of this craft. We are committed to providing a safe space where artists can explore their creativity without fear of repercussions. By offering designated areas for free expression, we ensure that the tradition of street art remains alive and accessible to all who wish to participate.

OPEN WALLS POLICIES

We proudly offer an open walls policy at the Art Park. Artists are welcome to paint anytime, on anything, in our designated safe spray zones. This allows for complete artistic freedom, while maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment for all. Before utilizing the Art Park, you must agree to a few key guidelines:

RESPECTFUL EXPRESSION

These walls are intended to bring us together! No offensive, hateful, or discriminatory markings, symbols, or imagery. This ensures that the space remains inclusive, safe, and respectful for all artists and viewers.

KEEP THE PEACE

Some unspoken rules of the streets include not adding to or modifying someone else’s piece. If you plan to paint over a spot, cover it entirely to respect the previous artist’s vision. Collaborate with other artists where possible, especially on large walls, instead of taking it over without consultation.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Clean up your materials and leave the area free of trash to maintain good relations with the community and property owners. Ensure that you do not damage the surfaces you are painting on, as the goal is to beautify, not harm.

Here for a good time, not a long time

Just like the nature of street art, all artwork in the Art Park is temporary and may be covered or removed at any time. Images of your work may be used on social, this website, promo materials and brochures, etc.

BYOS: Bring Your Own… SUPPLIES

Artists are encouraged to bring their own paint and materials to contribute to their work. PHXJAX does not currently have ladders, lifts, or paint to supply artists with. Reddi-Arts located nearby on Main St. is a great place to pick up paint and materials.

SAFETY FIRST

Paint at your own risk. Be cautious of uneven surfaces, rocks, and other elements that may pose hazards while painting. Phoenix Arts & Innovation District is not liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages that occur.
